September Edition

This September, the Paris art scene is elevated by warm hues. With its abundance of art galleries and museums, Paris is a treasure trove for art enthusiasts, and this month marks the beginning of the next chapter. Here are six riveting art exhibitions: from cartoons that evoke political satire, sculptures that echo the indispensable importance of ecology, to emerging artists who question societal norms.

Roland Topor did it all!
He wasn't just an influential cartoonist but also a novelist, playwright, film and TV writer, filmmaker, and an actor. His works of art challenged political norms, blending the surreal with the unsettling. In the 1960s, Topor co-created the "Panic Movement" ("Le Mouvement Panique") with Alejandro Jodorowsky and Fernando Arrabal. He's known for his contributions to the magazine Hara-Kiri, which is now called Charlie Hebdo. His popular children's TV series 'Téléchat' (1983-1986) received numerous awards, and he wrote the novel 'Le Locataire Chimérique' ('The Tenant', 1964), which was adapted into a film by Roman Polanski.

"Rather than elaborating an idea and trying to find the right material, I have always been attracted to wood. Everything about it inspires me, from its form to its essence," remarked David Nash, who sources materials for his sculptures from trees that have fallen naturally or been felled due to age, disease, or safety. His work stress human interaction and ecology. Alongside his sculptures, he has always created drawings and stencil editions.

5th September – 21th January

The exhibition traces the successive evolutions of artist Nicolas de Staël, from his first steps in figuration to his abstract canvases of the 1940s, which were inspired by the works of Robert Delaunay and Georges Braque, until his tragic suicide at the age of 41. An exiled child who became a tireless traveler, the artist was fascinated by the world's sights and their various lights. Whether facing the sea, a football match, or a piece of fruit on a table, he once wrote in a letter to Douglas Cooper in January 1955: "Painting, the real one, always tends towards all aspects, that is to say towards the impossible addition of the present moment, past, and future."
